FORTUNE/U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT MENTORING PARTNERSHIP WINS STEVIE® AWARD

New York, March 23, 2007 — The FORTUNE/U.S. State Department International Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership has been honored with a Stevie Award for Women in Business in the “Women Helping Women” category. The Partnership brings together emerging business leaders from around the world and FORTUNE 500-level executives in the United States.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition for the FORTUNE/U.S. State Department Mentoring Partnership,” said Patricia Sellers, FORTUNE editor at large and co-founder of the program. “The program nurtures young women business leaders from around the world by exposing them to America's most successful women. Not only do these young women learn from their mentors, but by sharing skills and experiences, they strengthen each other's leadership.”

In May 2006 the U.S. State Department and FORTUNE magazine, in partnership with Vital Voices, joined together to launch the International Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership. The month-long program placed 17 talented, emerging women leaders from 14 countries—including Bolivia , Nigeria , Pakistan , Russia , Saudi Arabia , and South Africa —in mentoring programs with participants of FORTUNE'S annual Most Powerful Women Summit. The program opened with a week-long orientation and leadership training session in Washington , D.C. , and then paired each woman with a U.S.-based Summit participant for three weeks. The pairs worked together, allowing the young women to observe best practices, learn organization and management skills, study business etiquette and conduct, and cultivate a valuable network of American professionals. This year, the program will double in size, with 34 “Most Powerful Women” participating as mentors.
