FORTUNE ANNOUNCES EDITORIAL PROMOTIONS

New York, NY, April 5, 2006—FORTUNE Managing Editor Eric Pooley announced today the promotions of seven editorial staffers.

Andy Serwer is promoted to Senior Editor at Large. Serwer started at FORTUNE as a reporter in 1984 and has been an editor-at-large since 1998. Considered one of the sharpest and most entertaining market commentators anywhere, Serwer writes the “Street Life” column and features for the magazine. He also appears daily on CNN’s American Morning.

Bethany McLean is promoted to Editor at Large. McLean is most noted for being one of the first reporters to raise questions about Enron in her 2001 story, “Is Enron Overpriced?” She is co-author of The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron (Portfolio 2003) with colleague Peter Elkind and was featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary based on the book. She has shared her Enron expertise in numerous appearances on national network and cable news shows. Since joining FORTUNE in 1995 from Goldman Sachs, McLean has covered a variety of companies including: Sallie Mae, Fannie Mae, MBIA and Overstock.com.

Peter Elkind is promoted to Editor at Large. Based in Dallas, Elkind joined FORTUNE in November 1997 and was previously a Senior Writer. He has written several features chronicling the high-stakes sagas in the business world including “Satan or Savior?,” a profile on New York State Attorney General, Elliot Spitzer and “The Fall of the House of Grasso,” a look into the resignation of then-NYSE Chairman and CEO, Dick Grasso. Elkind is also co-author of The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron (Portfolio 2003) with colleague Bethany McLean.

Ellen Florian-Kratz is promoted to Writer. Previously, Florian-Kratz was a writer-reporter and before that reporter. She joined FORTUNE in 2001 and works on features for the magazine, recently including "Get Me a CEO from GE!" "Real Estate Investing: How Real People Get Rich," and "The Gray Flannel Office."

Oliver Ryan is promoted to Writer-Reporter. Ryan writes for the FIRST section of the magazine, has a daily online column dedicated to tech news –“The Browser,” and writes features. Prior to joining FORTUNE, he worked for Knight Ridder Digital in San José and was general manager of SiliconValley.com, a Knight Ridder website.

Kate Bonamici is promoted to Writer-Reporter. Bonamici joined FORTUNE’s conference division in 2002 and joined the edit staff a year later. In addition to reporting for middle of the book features, she works on the “Business Life” section of the magazine. She has also worked on the FORTUNE Design package and written short pieces in FIRST about Greyhound, Avon, and Taser International.

Jenny Mero is promoted to Reporter. Mero has worked on many of FORTUNE’s signature lists including “100 Best Companies to Work For,” “Fastest Growing Companies,” and “International Most Powerful Women in Business.”
