Site Offers a Variety of Online Tools and Enhancements Which Give Visitors an Interactive Look at the Annual List

 

New York, July 18, 2006 CNNMoney.com has posted the exclusive online edition of MONEY magazine's “America's Best Place To Live” 2006, which includes a host of online-only features offering visitors an interactive look at the annual listing. The online version of this year's list breaks down America 's 90 best small cities, plus the 10 best big cities, and includes detailed facts and figures on each. The online piece offers users customizable maps and a variety of interactive tools. “ America 's Best Place To Live” 2006 appears in MONEY's August issue, on sale Monday, July 24.

 

CNNMoney.com 's exclusive coverage includes interactive maps highlighting key points such as colleges, hospitals, museums, and major employers, which cross references FORTUNE magazine's “FORTUNE 500” and “FORTUNE's Best Companies To Work For” lists. The site also includes separate lists of top 25 cities by specific criteria including high incomes, safety, homes prices, among others, along with state-by-state breakouts of the 100 finalists and 600 additional cities considered for the list. Visitors can use the site's exclusive tools to compare their favorite town to the “Best Places to Live” list against factors such as housing, education, quality of life, leisure activities, and other key factors. In addition, the “Find Your Best Place to Live” tool, allows visitors to select their own criteria and find the 25 cities that best match.

 

Visitors to CNNMoney.com may also participate in this year's package by submitting comments to the special “Best Places To Live” blog. Starting with an initial list of 745 places that have populations above 50,000, MONEY magazine's team of editors and writers undertook several months of research, reviewing data on a wide range of economic and quality-of-life indicators. Working with data provider Onboard of New York City and consultant Bert Sperling of BestPlaces.net, MONEY's team narrowed the list and then visited cities across the country, interviewing residents, community leaders and local officials before compiling the final rankings.
