Chris Isidore is a senior writer for CNNMoney.com and one of the longest-serving writers on the staff, having joined the site in September 1999.

He covers the economy, including real estate, as well as transportation, including autos and airlines. He also writes SportsBiz, a weekly column about the business of sports. He is the early-morning staffer, covering the full range of breaking news stories before the market opens. He was the lead reporter for the site's coverage of the Sept. 11 attack.

His first reporting job was in April 1983, at the Gary, Ind., Post-Tribune, where he worked until December 1994. He's been covering business for nearly 20 years, having also worked at the Journal of Commerce and Crain's New York Business before joining CNNMoney. He attended the University of Chicago, where he studied Political Science. His wife, Elizabeth Birge, is a tenured journalism professor at William Paterson University in New Jersey and a feature writer for the Newark, N.J., Star-Ledger.
